The brief

Ledgerline had a blog with four years of posts and almost no readers. Everything was accurate. Nothing was worth finishing.

What we did

We stopped publishing weekly and started publishing when we had something to say. Twelve essays over nine months, each built around a single claim the company was willing to defend in public.

The voice work came first: a two-page document that named what Ledgerline sounds like when it is confident, and what it sounds like when it is guessing. The second one turned out to be the more useful half.

The result

Newsletter opens tripled. More usefully, three of the twelve essays are still cited by people who do not work there.
