Studio

A small studio with strong opinions about paragraphs.

Since 2019

Three writers and one very opinionated editor, working out of a room with too many books in it.

We take on eight projects a year. Not because it is a strategy, but because that is how many we can do without the writing going quiet. Everything we send has been read by all four of us.

How we work

01

We read it out loud

If a sentence is hard to say, it is hard to trust. Every draft gets read aloud before it leaves the studio, which is why our drafts are shorter than our briefs.

02

We cut before we add

The first pass removes. The second pass rebuilds what the removal exposed. Most projects get shorter twice before they get better once.

03

We write from transcripts

Nobody writes the way they talk, and almost everybody talks better than they write. We start from recordings whenever a real voice is the point.

The people

Long-form and founder letters. Reads three newspapers before anyone else is awake.

Priya Raman

Eight projects a year. One of them could be yours.
